Andy was shaking his head sadly. “All that because Hendricks refused to do a quick scout.”

“We lost sixty two people to that attack,” Hardie sighed.

“And Hendricks ran off after being locked away?” asked Loco.

“We didn’t even get him back to base to face charges. The fucker disappeared while Bateman was dragging me out. To be honest, I was glad.”

“Glad?” Zip was taken aback.

“Glad, because I thought he would die alone in the wilderness. Killed by the mutants or the elements. It was what he deserved.”

“Except he didn’t die, Sarge,” Loco said, face reddening in anger.

“Nope, he didn’t,” Hardie muttered. Crushing the bedsheets in his fist, the futile gesture did little to soothe his rage.
